A warehouse in Bulleen, full of silent disco gear

Guests dancing in glowing wireless headphones at a Melbourne silent disco

The warehouse

Melbourne Silent Disco runs out of 14 Templestowe Rd, Bulleen. The gear lives here, it gets packed here and every hire starts and ends here unless a courier is doing the driving for you.

The pickup shop is unstaffed and that is the best part. We send you a door code, you let yourself in any time between 9am and 9pm, any day of the year, and you drop the gear back the same way. No appointment, no waiting on someone else's opening hours, no rearranging your Friday around a pickup window. Collection and drop-off being genuinely easy is the single most common theme in our reviews.

Type your address below and the map will show you the drive. If pickup is not your thing, a courier can deliver to your door and collect afterwards. The fee is worked out from your suburb when you book.

The headphones

Every headphone is wireless and runs three channels. One button on the earcup switches between them and the earcup glows the colour of the channel you are on, so you can see at a glance who is listening to what. Kids on one channel, the 90s crowd on another, and nobody has to compromise.

Packs run from 10 to 300 headphones, so a backyard birthday and a school fete are both normal weeks for us. The music comes from transmitters you plug your phone, laptop or mixer into. Standard transmitters plug into power and reach 250m. Battery transmitters run about 8 hours on a charge and reach 150m, which is what makes walking tours and venues without power possible. You can also hire iPods from us with playlists already loaded, so the music side can be zero effort.

Setup is genuinely plug and play. One extension cord, hand out the headphones, done. There are video instructions for every step if you want them, and printed instructions in the tub if you would rather not watch anything.

“Booking was a doddle, pick up and drop off was a piece of cake and the home set up was as close to ‘plug and play’ as it's possible to be; they've set it up so all you have to do is plug in one extension cord, hand out the headphones and you're done.”
